First Chapter of a Novel
2,500 word limit (if the chapter is longer, send only the opening 2,500 words).
Short Fiction
Any subject, 2,000 word limit.
Non-Fiction
Article, essay, memoir or other non-fiction, any subject, 2,500 word limit.
Short Stories for Youth -- written for ages 17 & under
2,000 word limit, illustrations optional.
Poetry
Rhymed or unrhymed. Denote style. 40-line limit.

- Adult Member - $10 per entry
- Adult Nonmember (over 18) - $15 per entry
- College students (full time, any age)—$5
- Youth (Grade K-12) - $2.50 per entry
- 1st Place: $100
- 2nd Place: $50
- 3rd Place: $25
Honorable Mention certificates will be awarded at the judges’ discretion.

- Entries should be typed or computer printed using 12-point Times New Roman font on 8 1/2 x 11 inch white paper.
- Single-sided printing only. Double space prose. Single space poetry.
- Attach a cover page with name, title, category, address, and email for each entry. Omit name from pages of work to be judged.
- Include title and page number on each page of work to be judged.
Entrants’ work will be judged on literary merit and judges’ decisions will be final. All places may not be awarded.
Categories with less than five entries will not be judged. If a category is not judged, entries and fees will be returned to those who entered it.
Entries will be graded down for poor grammar or disregard for common writing practices. Consider having your entries proofread. Disregard for the rules will not be condoned.
The entry and judge’s critique sheet will be returned if a properly sized, self-addressed envelope with adequate postage is included. If only the critique is desired, enclose an SASE, #10 envelope, with entry.
Please, no obscene or X-rated material. If you aren’t sure about the suitability of your work, don’t submit it.
